Welcome back to a new year and a new semester. I hope you enjoyed your winter break and return to campus feeling as excited and energized as I do.
I’m proud to say that the SPHHS will be providing a full schedule of events this spring semester designed to educate, challenge, and enlighten us all. In March, the SPHHS will host its 3rd Career Networking and Development Conference. This annual event encourages students to examine their future goals and aspirations, and provides career guidance and information on varied career opportunities. This year, the conference will include three separate components: an alumni networking night where alumni from all disciplines working in a variety of fields tell you about their lives and career paths; a traditional career fair where industry and non-profit representatives present information and provide job and internship opportunities; and, finally, an afternoon filled with career panel sessions divided into six separate career topics that we hope will be of interest to students at all levels and in all majors.
In April the School will host its 21st Annual Research Day. I encourage students of all departments to participate or to attend this event. What better way is there to better understand the diverse nature of the research and practice being conducted in varied settings, from labs to field work to community settings, in the SPHHS?
The SPHHS will host a variety of seminars and a dean’s symposium event this spring examining the potential public health impacts of marijuana legalization in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. It also will celebrate the newly approved SPHHS Center for Community Health Equity Research which reinforces our commitment to advance health equity for all individuals and to reduce the sources of health disparities regionally and internationally. Please join us for these events and many more happening this spring in the departments and the SPHHS.
Finally, this semester will bring what is, for a growing number of you, your last semester prior to graduation. After the culmination of years of hard work and effort, we will welcome you into our alumni ranks during commencement and senior recognition ceremonies. Enjoy the semester because before you know it, that day will have arrived.
