Angela de Oliveira has been appointed Interim Chair of the Department of Environmental Health Sciences. She began a one-year term on July 1st, and will replace Tim Ford, who is stepping down at the end of August to take a position with UMass Lowell.
De Oliveira joined UMass Amherst in 2009 in the Department of Resource Economics, and recently earned a promotion to full professor. She was a 2019 Chancellor’s Leadership Fellow in the Office of Faculty Development and has contributed to programming for onboarding, scholarly writing, and transitioning to associate professor. She also assisted with the Collaborative on Academic Careers in Higher Education (COACHE) survey, a research initiative based at the Harvard Graduate School of Education.
“I am delighted to have Angela fill this important leadership position for the FY 21 academic year,” says Anna Maria Siega-Riz, dean of the School of Public Health and Health Sciences. “She is a successful scholar and leader, and is well poised to lead Environmental Health Sciences. I also want to thank Tim Ford for his service as chair for the last three years, and for his commitment to the SPHHS, UMass Amherst, and the Institute for Global Health. Please join me in wishing him well in his future endeavors.”
