Our Mission: The Center for Community Health Equity Research (CCHER) seeks to promote health equity by eliminating disparities among underserved and disadvantaged populations. The Center supports multidisciplinary research investigating the social production of health disparities and the relationship among individual, social, and environmental factors that impact quality of life and population health.
The Center seeks to address the gap between academic research and practice by leveraging rigorous studies to drive public health policies. The Center builds collective resilience by forging partnerships both locally and globally through participatory research with clinical and community-based organizations.
CCHER brings together researchers with diverse disciplinary expertise to investigate the social production of health disparities in low-income African-American and Latino communities. We take a culture-centered approach to minority stress, maternal and child health and environmental health research to prevent health disparities and to identify and implement novel interventions to improve mental health, manage chronic illness and build resilience.
