UMass Amherst Mt. Ida Campus courses are open to current MPH students in any of the following programs:
Fully online MPH-Public Health Practice
Fully online MPH-Nutrition
SPHHS MPH-Health Promotion and Policy
4+1 MPH students
The courses are also open to:
Working public health or health care professionals in the greater Boston area.
Those who just need one or two MPH courses to help improve your professional skills.
Those currently enrolled in an MPH program with another University in the Boston area.
The 2 courses for the spring 2019 term are core, required courses, for any fully accredited MPH program in the US. As such, they should transfer into other programs. Most programs require preapproval to take outside courses. If you would like more information on this process please contact us.
If you are interested in trying a course, before submitting an application, this is a good place to begin. For students in these categories, you would be considered a non-degree student and would need to wait until December 3rd to enroll.
Spring term is from Tuesday, January 22nd until Thursday, May 9th. For a full academic calendar for the spring semester go here.
Enrollment for admitted MPH students begins on Monday, November 5th 2018, 9 a.m. EST. All matriculated student enroll using SPIRE.
Enrollment for non-degree students opens on Monday, December 3rd 2018, 9 a.m. EST. All non-degree students will need to take the following steps to enroll:
1. Create a UMass student account. Go here, and click on "non-degree enrollment application." Do not attempt to log in!
2. Once you submit the application, in 24-36 hours you will get an email from our IT department with your log in credentials. With these you will go back here, and log in.
3. After logging in you will need to request a CPE enrollment appointment for Spring 2019. Download the instructions here.
4. Once you do this you can enroll. A tutorial on how to enroll can be found here.
The current tuition for the spring 2019 UMass Amherst Mt. Ida Campus courses with SPHHS is $615.00 per credit or $1845.00 per course. There is a $47.00 registration fee. For fully admitted, UMass Amherst students, the cost of taking a course with Mt. Ida is not covered by a tuition waiver. As well, if you are a non-degree student, these courses are not considered prerequisites and you cannot use federal student loans to pay for them.
State of Massachusetts employees may qualify for a 50% reduction in the cost of tuition. Please check with your Human Resources office to see if you and the courses qualify.
