The University of Massachusetts Amherst

Opportunities

The sociology academic curriculum is only one part of an enriching student experience at UMass Amherst. In addition to knowledge acquired in the classroom, the Sociology Department strongly encourages students to engage with the community through internships and service projects, to apply methodological training through faculty-sponsored research practica, and to literally push the boundaries of their educational experience by taking advantage of the many study abroad opportunities available to them through the International Program Office.

In addition, the department seeks to help students gain recognition for their accomplishments by promoting scholarships and awards, and acting as a resource during the application process. There are a number of awards offered each year through the Sociology Department, the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences, the UMass Amherst Alumni Association and the University.
