So You’re a Sophomore…
You’ve gotten the hang of college life, but there is still a lot left to do!
- Review your Academic Requirements Report each semester.
- Begin taking 200- and 300-level Sociology courses: Take SOCIOL 212 and 213 ASAP!
- Finish up your GenEds—don’t be trapped by lower-level requirements as an upperclassman. If you haven’t already gotten your R1 done, take the exemption exam.
- In fact, visit the International Programs Office to plan for a semester away during your junior year.
- Focus your academic curriculum with a Minor or Certificate: Sociology offers certificates in Criminology and Criminal Justice System, Population Studies, Social Research Analysis and Social Welfare/Social Work.
- If you have a GPA of 3.4 or higher, consider applying for the Sociology Departmental Honors Program.
- Continue meeting with your professors; identify at least one or two that you’d like to get to know well or who is doing research in a field of interest.
- Step up your involvement in student groups or clubs—consider taking on a leadership role at some point.
- Research possible internships that relate to an interest you have. (It doesn’t need to be connected to your major.)
