Kathleen Daly (PhD UMass Sociology, 1983) was the 2024 recipient of the prestigious American Society of Criminology (ASC) Edwin Sutherland Award for distinguished contributions to theory or research in criminology. Kathy is a professor at Griffith University in Brisbane, Australia. (Photo below, Kathy receiving award from the ASC president, Valerie Jenness, at the 2024 conference in San Francisco). In 2018, Sally Simpson (PhD UMass Sociology, 1985) received the award. Sally is Distinguished Professor Emerita at the University of Maryland in College Park. The Sutherland Award is the ASC’s top award. It was established in 1960 and has been awarded to 63 people (it was not given in one year). Of the 63, just seven have been women.

Diego Leal, Associate Professor at the University of Arizona, was awarded a $2.8 million R01 grant through the National Cancer Institute (NCI) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to assess how teens' peer networks at school influence them to both start and continue to smoke and use e-cigarettes.


Brandi Perri, MassBay Community College Assistant Professor, has been awarded the 2024 Constance Coiner Award for groundbreaking research on blue-collar workers.


Derek Siegel, Assistant Professor at Old Dominion University, had an article, "Teaching Dobbs to Disrupt U.S. Hegemony & Build Feminist Solidarities," published in Radical Teacher.


Eiko Strader, Associate Professor of Public Policy and Women’s, Gender & Sexuality Studies (WGSS) and the Director of Graduate Studies in Public Policy and WGSS at the George Washington University, was asked by the Wiki Education Foundation to contribute a guest blog, "Professor engages students in feminist praxis with Wikipedia assignment.
