David Cort is the new Sociology Department Chair. Additionally, alongside many other COIN co-authors (The Comparative Organizational Inequality Network, which includes dozens of scholars from sixteen countries), David Cort and Don Tomaskovic-Devey’s paper, “The Great Separation: Top Earner Segregation at Work in Advanced Capitalist Economies,” published in the American Journal of Sociology, was awarded the 2025 RC28 Social Stratification and Mobility section of the ISA best paper award, as well as the AJS's own best paper award.

She also co-authored a column in Academe Blog, "What a Federal Court Brief Can Teach Us About How to Defend Higher Ed," with fellow members of the Stand Together for Higher Ed national team, and was interviewed, with her Stand Together for Higher Education colleagues, in a Forbes article, "A Grass-Roots Faculty Effort to Advance Higher Education Takes Shape." Lundquist was also quoted in an article, "As dating apps turn to AI, experts warn love cannot be engineered," in the UK news and features site, The Breaker.

Tony Paik is co-Principal Investigator on a newly-awarded NSF grant ($299,847) titled, "A Longitudinal Foundation Grants Database: Analyzing Philanthropic Changes through Network Analysis and Large Language Models," in collaboration with Viviana Wu (UMass Amherst, School of Public Policy) and Heather MacIndoe (UMass Boston).

Laurel Smith-Doerr is the new Sociology Department Associate Chair for the 2025-2026 academic year. She was also recently elected to be the next Chair of the American Sociological Association's Organizations, Occupations and Work (OOW) section, serving as Chair-Elect this year, and as Chair during the following academic year.
