The Meghan K. Beebe Senior Speaker Award was created after Meghan's tragic death in December of 2013 and in honor of her courage, joy, and passion. Meghan loved sociology, was a founding member of Sociology Club, and was committed to exploring the ways she could incorporate sociology into her post-graduate pursuits.
The award is granted to one exceptional senior sociology major with strong writing and presentation skills who will speak on behalf of graduating sociology majors at the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences Commencement Ceremony. Senior sociology majors are invited to submit a 1-2 minute speech that colorfully describes the common experience UMass Amherst Sociology majors share and mutual hopes for the future.
"Although the mosaic of Meghan’s life now lies before us incomplete, as we all live our lives let’s do so with Meghan as a part of our mosaic. She lives on in all of us."
- Richard Beebe, Meghan's father
