Manuel Matos was a gifted sociology student whose life sadly ended in September of 2018. He was equal part intellectual and activist, deeply committed to struggles for a better world free of racism and sexism.
Manuel was passionate about the mentoring of undergraduate students of African descent by graduate students of African descent at the University of Massachusetts Amherst and gifts in his memory will help support these kinds of initiatives. In honor of Manuel's memory and his work for social and environmental justice, the department is pleased to establish the Manuel Matos Mentoring Award. This award aims to support and mentor students committed to publicly-engaged scholarship and intellectually-grounded activism.
Help us continue the legacy that Manuel started. All gifts are needed and appreciated.
Give a gift in memory of Manuel today (dedicate the gift "In Memory of Manuel Matos").
