Michelle Budig Receives SBS Dean’s Research Excellence Award

Michelle Budig, Professor and Chair of Sociology, has been awarded the SBS Dean’s Research Excellence Award. This award recognizes distinguished achievement in scholarship and research, and recipients are nominated by their peers.

Budig has been a highly influential figure in the social scientific understanding of gender inequality in the labor force in the developed world. Her research areas include gender inequality in labor markets, work and family conflict, feminist theory, and contingent labor and self-employment. In the past five years, she has received awards and honors such as the Article of the Year Award from the American Sociological Association Section on the Family (2012), the Reuben Hill Award, Research and Theory Section from the National Council on Family Relations (2011), and the Rosabeth Moss Kanter Award for Research Excellence in Families & Work from the Center for Families at Purdue University and the Boston College Center for Work & Family (2011).
