About
Muzaffar Ahmad is a Ph.D. student in Sociology at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. His academic interests center on political sociology, social inequality, rights, education and postcolonial studies, with a specific regional focus on South Asia. He is particularly interested in the intersections of state violence, economic precarity, and resistance in conflict-affected societies such as Kashmir, where he is originally from.
Before joining UMass Amherst, Muzaffar studied Development Management at the Indian School of Development Management, India, where he focused on the structural challenges of non-profit work, governance, and grassroots mobilization. He has previously worked with organizations in both research and field capacities, engaging with issues around education, and governanace.
At UMass, Muzaffar is currently a Teaching Assistant for SOCIOL 103: Introduction to Social Problems. He is committed to pedagogical engagement that links theory with lived realities, particularly in contexts marked by marginalization and systemic oppression.
Outside of his academic work, Muzaffar writes about Kashmir, politics, and society, and is active in interdisciplinary discussions around decolonization, critical theory, and global solidarity movements.
