ABOUT

Max's past research has been driven by the following pressing questions:  How do marginalized individuals operate outside the confines of the “normative” social world? For multiply marginalized individuals, which identity comes to be the most salient, and in what circumstances? How do culturally distinct, competing understandings of sexuality shape individuals' expressed identities in different milieu? Max's master's thesis, filed in 2022, included in-depth life-course interviews and analyzed the effect of fictive kinship networks on queer individuals and the role of social support in these chosen families.
