The Institute for Social Science Research (ISSR) is seeking a motivated, tech-savvy undergraduate student to assist in compiling event registration data for the institute’s annual reports. ISSR supports social science methodology, public engagement, and interdisciplinary research at UMass Amherst. ISSR’s mission is aimed at helping faculty members find funding opportunities and supporting grant proposal development.
Working under the direction of ISSR staff, the Student Research Assistant will gather data for annual reports as well as generate data visualizations, surveys, and other tasks. This position is remote for the summer but will transition to hybrid in the Fall and Spring semesters. Please send CV/resume and cover letter to Christina Hotalen.
Essential Functions:
- Assist with data collection
- Generate charts, tables, and other data visualizations
- Draft reports
- Garner feedback from the ISSR community
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Demonstrates proficiency in professional office software: Word, Excel, PowerPoint
- Has experience in gathering, interpreting, and working with data
- Demonstrates ability to develop charts, tables, and data visualizations
- Interested in social science research
- Completion of a statistics course/or research methods course, with an introduction to statistical software such as STATA, SPSS, R, or SAS
- Students of any major that have completed coursework and/or experience with data analysis are welcomed to apply
Hours Per Week: 5-10
Hiring Period: Summer semester
Location: Remote (summer); hybrid (fall/spring)
Pay Rate: $16/hr
