Criteria
- This fellowship is available to faculty of all ranks across the university who conduct social science research.
- In order to participate fully in the Scholars Program and to encourage concerted effort on grant preparation, selected faculty must secure one course release for the academic year. Upon application, each candidate must have a letter from their home department or college/school confirming that a release is available. ISSR will contribute $3500 toward the cost of the course release and each unit may decide how the remainder of the course release will be funded.
- Applicants should plan to be the PI on the grant they are proposing; please list the name of any anticipated co-investigagor(s).
- If ISSR receives an unusually high number of applications, faculty who have not received any other proposal preparation grants in the last three years will be given priority. This program is not for faculty who want to revise or resubmit existing proposals.
- Each program Scholar is expected to submit their proposal no later than the semester following their participation in the program (or the sponsor’s next application date, if later). If a proposal is not submitted within this period, the investigator will be expected to teach an overload to repay the course reduction they received to participate in the program.

Applications may be submitted begining January 2,2024, with a deadline of 5pm on February 9, 2024. Notifications will be made mid-semester in the Spring.
Tips on applying to CRF and ISSR Scholar Programs!
Each application should include:
- A completed Application Cover Sheet
- A two- to three-page summary of the proposal you anticipate preparing, including a description of the research and methodological approach; include a working project title
- A recent curriculum vitae
- A supporting letter from your department Chair, noting that either they or their Dean will provide a course release for you during the fellowship year if you are selected for the ISSR Scholars program (for non-SBS faculty, a supporting letter from your Dean is an additional requirement).
In addition, each applicant should submit:
- Whether you will also be applying to the Center for Research on Families Family Research Scholars Program, which offers a similar seminar series for faculty working on family-related research
- The name of any anticipated co-investigagor(s).
- The name(s) of the anticipated sponsor(s) to whom you will submit the proposal
