Are you ready to move beyond coding and begin exploring patterns in your qualitative data? This 2-hour hands-on workshop introduces you to basic queries and visual tools in MAXQDA 24 (for both Mac and Windows). Designed for researchers with basic familiarity with coding in MAXQDA or another QDA tool, this session will guide you through:

  • Activating documents and codes to focus your analysis
  • Retrieving and comparing coded segments
  • Using basic queries to explore patterns and relationships
  • Comparing codes across documents or participant groups
  • Creating simple visual representations of coded data

Whether you are beginning the analysis stage of a research project or exploring new ways to examine coded data, this workshop will provide a practical foundation for using MAXQDA to retrieve, compare, and visualize patterns. These tools can help you identify areas for closer examination and support the development and communication of your qualitative findings. 

Basic familiarity with MAXQDA’s interface and features is recommended.

**If you’re new to MAXQDA, the Click, Organize, Code: Your First Steps in MAXQDA workshop is offered on Friday, October 02, 2 - 4 pm. You may enroll in both workshops. New MAXQDA users are encouraged to complete the introductory workshop before attending the Basic Queries and Visualizations workshop.

Accessing MAXQDA software for your personal computer:

All attendees must have MAXQDA installed on their home computer (Mac or PC) before the workshop date. For all UMass Amherst students and faculty, a free copy of MAXQDA is just a click away. You can request it at the following links: https://www.umass.edu/social-science-research/computing-software 

MAXQDA offers a free 14-day trial for both Windows and Mac users. We recommend downloading your trial no earlier than 14 days before the workshop date to ensure you have ample time to familiarize yourself with the software, but also be able to access the software during the workshop.
