Does your research project involve multiple data sets that you need to combine for analysis? Or do you need to manipulate the rows and columns of your data set?
This workshop will provide an introduction to transforming and managing multiple data sets in STATA. We will cover:
- Joining two files with the same observations but different variables (merging)
- Joining two files with the same variables but different observations (appending)
- Making aggregate variables (e.g. average state income) from individual level observations (collapsing)
- Changing a data set from wide format to long format and vice versa (reshaping). Example: If you have variables measured at multiple time points, wide format will have a variable/column for each time point whereas long format will have an observation/row for each time point.
The workshop will involve both demonstration and hands on practice with combining and manipulating data sets in STATA.
