Instructor: Richard Liu

This workshop introduces participants to moderation and mediation, two essential techniques for studying complex relationships in behavioral and social sciences research. Moderation analysis examines how the relationship between two variables depends on a third variable (moderator); mediation analysis examines how or why an independent variable influences an outcome through an intermediary (mediator). Using Andrew Hayes' framework, we will cover the conceptual foundations of these methods and demonstrate their implementation using Hayes' PROCESS macro for SPSS and R. No prior experience with R is required.

Learning Objectives

  • Understand the key concepts and differences between moderation and mediation analyses
  • Gain hands-on experience implementing these techniques in SPSS and R using Hayes' PROCESS macro
  • Learn best practices for reporting and interpreting results
