ISSR Methodology Workshop | Introduction to Moderated Mediation Analysis (i.e., Conditional Process Analysis)
Instructor: Richard Liu
This advanced workshop focuses on Conditional Process Analysis, also known as moderated mediation, an advanced statistical approach that combines moderation and mediation effects to understand complex processes. Building on the work of Andrew Hayes, participants will learn how mediation effects can vary as a function of a moderator, which allows for deeper insights into how and under what conditions an independent variable influences an outcome variable. Through step-by-step examples and hands-on practice, we will cover conceptual foundations, model setup, and implementation using Hayes’ PROCESS macro in SPSS and R. This workshop is designed for researchers already familiar with moderation and mediation. No prior experience with R is required.
Learning Objectives
- Understand the theoretical basis of conditional process analysis (moderated mediation)
- Learn to specify and test moderated mediation models using Hayes' PROCESS macro in SPSS and R
- Interpret and visualize conditional indirect effects in the context of real-world data
- Learn best practices for reporting and interpreting results
