Semester Workshops
In Person - E37 Machmer Hall

Instructor: Richard Liu

This workshop introduces participants to Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA), a statistical technique used to uncover the underlying structure of a large number of variables. EFA is particularly useful when you do not have a predetermined theory about the structure of your data, and it helps identify potential factors that explain the correlations among observed variables. In this hands-on session, we will explore how to perform EFA using R, interpreting the output, and discussing best practices. While prior experience with R is helpful, it is not required; this workshop is designed to be accessible to those new to the software.

Learning Objectives

  1. Understand the principles and purposes of Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA).
  2. Learn how to perform EFA in R
  3. Interpret results of an EFA, including factor loadings and communalities.
  4. Discuss the practical applications of EFA in research
  5. Gain hands-on experience by conducting an EFA on a sample dataset.
