This workshop serves as an introduction to data analysis planning and workflow organization. We will cover best practices and principles for developing a data analysis workflow with the goal of understanding how to adapt them for individual and group project management. Specifically, you will learn elements of:

  1. Planning (e.g., goals, scheduling, variable names and labels, back-up and archiving, etc.)
  2. Organization (e.g., directories, sharing, software choices, etc.)
  3. Documentation Development (e.g., research logs and codebooks)
  4. Execution (e.g., choices of software for analysis, writing, reporting, etc.)

Time permitting, we will also cover codebook design, directory design, and key principles of “tidy data” as defined by Hadley Wickham.

No prior experience in data analysis is expected or required. It’s recommended that you have a computer or notepad to take notes.
