Yesterday, the UMass Board of Trustees voted to once again raise tuition for the upcoming year. Undergraduates at UMass Amherst will see a 3% rise in in-state tuition and a 4% rise in out-of-state tuition. We commend our Student Trustee Derek Dunlea for voting against the measure but also recognize the difficult position that the UMass Board was placed in by a state government that fails to fully commit to affordable public higher education. We have long fought for tuition freezes and staying true to UMass’ goal of being a top-tier affordable institution.
If you would like to help us combat future tuition raises, the best thing you can do right now is to contact your State Representatives and remind them of the importance of an accessible college experience to you and the Commonwealth. You can use PHENOM (Public Higher Education Network of Massachusetts) tool to call your representatives here http://phenomonline.org/callin17/.
