SBS Outstanding Advising Award

Award Details
The SBS Outstanding Advising Award was instituted in 2021 to recognize outstanding contributions to the SBS advising program and student success mission. Recipients receive a $1000 award and a plaque at an SBS event. Up to two awards will be granted each year.
Award Eligibility
Members of the SBS Advising Network whose work involves academic or career and professional advising, or directly enhances the quality of SBS advising and our SBS Pathways model, are eligible. Nominees must have been members of the SBS Advising Network for at least two years at the time of nomination. Those who have received the Outstanding Advising Award within the past five years are not eligible. The Outstanding Advising Award selection committee is comprised of the Senior Associate Dean for Education and Student Development (committee chair), plus two past award recipients and one undergraduate peer advisor or peer intern.
Award Timeline
The previous deadline for nominations was March 25, 2022. The upcoming deadline is March 24, 2023.
Nomination Criteria
Anyone can submit a nomination, including colleagues within or outside the department/program. Required: 1) A nomination letter from a chair, director, supervisor, or colleague. The letter must include a clear description of the nominee’s role and a detailed explanation, with specific examples, of the significant contributions the nominee’s work makes to the department/program, college, or university. 2) A letter in support of the nomination, signed by the department/program chair or director, if the original nomination is submitted by someone other than the chair or director. The letter must include a clear description of the nominee’s role and a detailed explanation, with specific examples, of the significant contributions the nominee’s work makes to the department/program, college, or university. 3) At least one, but a maximum of five, letters of support from current or former students and/or departmental or campus colleagues who have worked with the nominee in their advising or student success role. Strongly Encouraged: Explanation of any contributions the nominee has made to diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice in the department/program, college, or university.
