Rebecca Bell recently joined UMass Amherst as Assistant Director for Career Planning, and will work primarily with students, faculty and staff in the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences. Bell is particularly interested in working with students to help them make connections between their academic interests and concrete practical experiences to expand their opportunities for the future.
Bell, who holds an MA in international and intercultural management from the School for International Training (SIT) and a BA in government from Smith College, has extensive experience in higher education advising and administration. Prior to joining UMass, Bell worked at SIT Graduate Institute in Brattleboro, VT, as program manager for CONTACT, an international conflict transformation program committed to resolving conflict and the promotion of justice, human rights, and respect for diversity. There, among her many responsibilities, she advised students and sponsoring agencies on professional application and logistical information and maintained alumni outreach and development in order to build opportunities for engagement. She also made many presentations related to engaging students in career development.
Bell has lived and worked around the world, including the United Kingdom, south Asia and southern Africa. She has advised and taught students from every continent (including someone based at a research station in Antarctica!).
Every day (M-F) from 1–4 pm in Goodell 511 and Tuesday's from 6–8 pm at the Learning Commons in the library, Career Services has 15-minute drop-in sessions. Students can meet with a peer advisor during those times for help with resumes, cover letters, etc. Students can meet with Bell for an hour-long individual appointment. To do so, they should call 545-2224 to schedule a time with her. Bell can work with students on career choice, resume and cover letter review, mock interviews, interview prep, internship and job searches and much, much more! Don't miss out on these opportunities!
