Event Planning Guide

UMass has a wide variety of rooms on campus for events of all sizes. Below you'll find information on all types of campus spaces as well as off-campus options for both catering and room reservations.

Scheduling

When scheduling an event, double check for conflicts/holidays on the academic calendar and the university events schedule. Once you have a date established, enter it on the university events schedule.

On-Campus Event/Meeting Spaces

Campus Center/Student Union

Commonwealth Honors College Events Halls: Rooms 160E and 160W each hold around 150 and can be combined into one large room; contact Roland Packard.

Dining Halls Event Rooms: Contact managers of Berkshire and Hampshire.

Goodell Hall – Bernie Dallas Room: This is a wood-paneled, formal room that holds about 75-100. Campus catering will cater outside of the room. Contact Erin Bernard. A/V Requested through AIMS, 413-545-5765.

Integrated Learning Center (ILC) Rooms:

  • Room N151 is an auditorium that seats 350.
  • 3rd Floor Communication: Check with Mari Castaneda; must include Communication professor to book.
  • ​4th Floor Linguistics Hub: Check with Michelle McBride.
  • Other rooms in the ILC (see rooms and capacities here).

Mullins Center: Book a function room online.

Stockbridge Hall – Bowker Auditorium: Seats 700; contact Melissa Cleary.

University Club:

  • Homestead House: Seats 20 (45 standing)
  • Baker Lounge: Seats 26
  • Tory Room: Seats 22
  • Levi Stockbridge Room: Seats 18
  • Daniel Chester French Room: Seats 18
  • Chancellor’s Room: Seats 8-12

Video Conferencing Rooms:

  • Engineering Lab II – Room 115: Configurable tables with 20 seats, plus additional chairs. This facility can also be used for the development of multimedia content through lecture-capture or classroom-based video production for use in teaching, podcasting, etc.
    Equipment:
    • Tandberg 6000-MXP (standard-definition)
    • Desktop video conferencing (Zoom, WebEx, Skype, etc.)
    • Multi camera setup
    • Full room echo cancelling microphone array
    • Dual-boot iMac (runs Windows or MacOS) with Microsoft Office
  • W.E.B. Du Bois Library – Room 1649: Configurable tables with 15 seats, plus additional chairs.
    Equipment:
    • Lifesize Room 220 (high definition)
    • Desktop video conferencing (Zoom, WebEx, Skype, etc.)
    • Wearable echo cancelling microphones
    • Computer (iMac) with Microsoft Office

Other departmental conference rooms: Aimee Jo Pion has access to scheduling all campus classrooms abd conference rooms through the Registrar’s Office.

On-Campus Catering Options

UMass Catering caters to every building on campus. Outside catering options cannot be used in the Student Union and Campus Center. These include the Student Union Ballroom, Cape Cod Lounge and Campus Center Auditorium. They can be reached at 413-577-8200 or at ccevents@umass.edu.

  • Rooms on the first floor by the Campus Center Auditorium would not require a fee for an event with on-campus attendees. This is the same for meeting rooms on the 9th floor.

  • Amherst Room and Hadley Room, on the 10th floor, would require a fee if food is not being served.
