Merriam Internship Award

Award Background
Supports students taking summer or semester-long internships in public policy, law, ecological conservation, and/or real estate development. Preference will be given to juniors and those who have financial need as determined by the UMass Amherst Financial Aid Office. Candidates must be in good academic standing with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0. Preference will be given to students with confirmed offers from employers. Students who are awaiting formal confirmation may still apply. All internships must be confirmed to receive the award.

Average award: Two awards of up to $1,500 will be made in the spring. | Application will open in 2017-18 academic year.

Please write a brief statement (no more than 250 words) of financial need which describes any important or extenuating financial circumstances related to your need for this scholarship.
Please provide an essay (no more than 300 words) that describes the internship you will complete. How is this internship related to your field of interest? How will it help you meet both academic and career goals?
An email or letter from your internship sponsor confirming your internship placement. If not yet confirmed, please email documentation once it is confirmed to scholarships@sbs.umass.edu.
