Fall 2020 Staff Furlough Information
All members of PSU, USA, and non-unit staff, except those impacted by the indefinite furloughs and mandatory hour reductions mentioned above will be required to take a 10-day unpaid furlough in two five-day increments. As was the case last spring, employees who are more than 25% grant-funded or currently working under an authorized work visas will be exempt from the furlough. Both weeks should be taken between September 21st and December 31st. Employees should work with their supervisor to determine which two weeks they should take the furlough.
Employees impacted by an indefinite furlough, mandatory hour reductions, or the 10-day furlough shall be eligible to file for unemployment. Additionally, all impacted employees will retain access to their UMass benefits. More information regarding maintaining GIC coverage will be forthcoming to impacted employees.

Can I take my furlough over two consecutive weeks?
If you wish to take two consecutive weeks, it is critical those two weeks fall into separate pay periods to cover the cost of employee GIC and other deductions.
How is furlough time reported?
The time and attendance reporting code for staff taking two weeks of unpaid furlough is FUR.
What if I am on FMLA or other paid leave?
Employees will be in unpaid status during the selected two five-day continuous periods and may not use any paid leave, including FMLA leave, during this time.
