Ina Ganguli Participates in U.S. Department of Labor Roundtable

Ina Ganguli, economics and associate director of the UMass Computational Social Science Institute, participated in the U.S. Department of Labor Roundtable on Assessing Workforce Skill and Competency Change Over Time which was held on October 21, 2022. During the event, she addressed the changing nature of the U.S. labor force, including automation and artificial intelligence. Researchers were invited to participate in a listening session to learn about: 

  • Explore different perspectives on the feasibility of analyzing changes in skill and competency over time from researchers in the field. 
  • Analyze data elements needed to assess changes in skill and competency for occupations. 
  • As certain occupations grow or shrink in size, or as the task composition of occupations changes, research various methods and approaches to assess skills and competency demand and trends. 
  • Enhance government or public-private partnership capacities for capturing and analyzing such information by supporting such analytical capabilities.
