Capitol Siege: Making Sense of What Happened

Thursday, January 14, 2021 - 12:00pm to 1:15pm
Zoom

On January 6, 2021, an angry mob assaulted the United States Capitol while Congress was certifying the results of the 2020 Presidential election. They were urged on by the sitting President, who has falsely claimed that the election results were fraudulent.

Please join us for a special panel discussion. UMass Amherst faculty from the departments of History, Journalism and Political Science will help make sense of the events of January 6 by examining precedents for political violence in the US and elsewhere, political polarization and the role of traditional and new media.

Following the discussion, panelists will respond to questions from the audience. Participants are encouraged to submit questions in advance through the registration form.
