Author Talks: "Trump and the English Language"

Thursday, February 8, 2018 - 5:00pm to 7:00pm
Room 2601, W.E.B. Du Bois Library

In the first library-sponsored “Author Talks” of the spring semester, Ilan Stavans of Amherst College will be giving a talk on "Trump and the English Language". He elaborates on this as follows:  "The age of Trump is not only about a divided America but about a fractured syntax and an impoverished lexicon. Can we make English great again?"

Ilan Stavans is Lewis-Sebring Professor of Humanities, Latin American and Latino Culture at Amherst College, publisher of Restless Books, and host of the NEPR podcast "In Contrast."

The Libraries started the Author Talk Series with the goal of celebrating authors and books with a connection to UMass Amherst, the Four Colleges, and the local community and to provide an opportunity to connect the campus community and the public with the Libraries. Featured authors will be from the Five Colleges and beyond.

This event is co-sponsored by Legal Studies, Department of Political Science.
