Henry Barr '68
Henry Barr is a senior partner in the law firm of Barr & Cole as well as president and director for the real estate investment company, Duco Associates, Inc. He was formerly an attorney with Looney & Grossman and the Administrator of Courts for the Trial Courts of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
A lifetime member of the Massachusetts Bar Foundation and a former president of the Massachusetts Lender’s Association, Barr has served as chairman of the Massachusetts Interpreter Services Committee and the Massachusetts Court Clinic Services Committee and as acting chair of the Massachusetts Child Support Guidelines Committee. He also is on the community advisory board of the Grand Circle Foundation, president of the board of trustees of the MetroWest Community Health Care Foundation, and past president of the West End House Boys and Girls Club in Allston, where he continues to serve as a member of the board of directors.
Barr's commitment to UMass Amherst is extensive; he has served on the board of directors for the UMass Amherst Alumni Association. He was a member of the advisory board at the Center for Public Policy and Administration, part of the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences. Currently he serves as a director of the University of Massachusetts Amherst Foundation. In 2012, Barr was recognized with the UMass Amherst Alumni Association’s Distinguished Service Award.
Barr graduated from UMass Amherst in 1968 with a BA in government (now political science). Earning a law degree from Boston College Law School in 1972 and an MBA from Suffolk University in 1978, he completed the Senior Executive Program at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government in 1980. Barr and his wife, Andrea '68 (education), who reside in Framingham, MA, have two grown sons.
