The UMass Amherst Labor Studies program is the premier graduate degree program for students to understand the political economy, workers’ organizations, and how to build power. The program provides skills that activists need as well as the theory and context to think critically about issues facing working people and their movements today.
The Labor Studies curriculum provides an understanding of economic, political, legal, and social issues in the global economy — including issues around race, immigration, gender, and the working class — and how unions and workers’ rights organizations can work to build justice and dignity in the workplace and the community.
