Studying Russian taught me more than just a new language and about another culture. It gave me an outsider’s perspective on my own language and culture that one cannot achieve otherwise. I was also afforded the opportunity to study abroad in Saint Petersburg, and living and studying amongst Russians gave me an even deeper understanding of both our countries and peoples.
Being in an unfamiliar environment and forced to use my Russian language skills helped build confidence and other skills within myself that one really cannot get elsewhere. Studying Russian not only opened up opportunities to take on translation work but made me a better all-around candidate for other positions as well.
