Participants will learn about river processes (fluvial geomorphology). Understanding why rivers do what they do is essential to managing flood risk in riverine environments, particularly at road-stream crossings such as culverts and bridges. We will use an interactive stream table and allow participants to experiment with various river and landscape scenarios to illustrate first-hand how rivers change their shape, erode banks, flood low-elevation areas, and impact infrastructure.
