Application Process

The department of resource economics admits students for a fall term only. All applications are submitted through the UMass Amherst Graduate School and are due by January 1st.

4+1 Accelerated MS Program

The 4+1 Accelerated MS program allows current UMass Amherst undergraduates the ability to earn both a bachelor's and a master's degree in 5 years. Interested students should discuss the opportunity early on with their advisor. Students should email the GPD in the spring of their Junior year for an informal acceptance. The GPD will let you know before spring registration whether you are accepted or not. If approved, students are expected to take 9 graduate credits in their senior year. Accepted students will still need to apply formally through the Graduate School by January 1st of their senior year. Learn more about the 4+1 program here.

Application Requirements

In order to apply, you must submit supplemental documentation in addition to the application form. Your application is considered incomplete until everything has been submitted and it will not be reviewed until it is complete. Please submit the following documentation with your application:

Please note that the GRE is not required.

Funding

All admitted PhD students are automatically considered for assistantship funding. Students do not need to apply for funding separately. Funding decisions are made at the department level, not by individual faculty. Students are matched with research advisors after completing initial coursework. Currently, there are no departmental funding opportunities for MS students. Accepted students will first receive a notification from the Graduate School. If you are being offered funding, the Department of Resource Economics will send you a separate offer letter by email with the details.
