Smith College guest lecturer Leo XL Y Fuentes Jr, will be speaking on behalf of indigenous communities in the Philippines on the water history of the Philippines from the pre-colonial era, through imperialism, and to modern day neo-colonial policies that grant water rights to corporations. Fuentes will use case studies that bring together conversations surrounding indigenous struggle for water rights, people's displacement, poverty, hydraulic development projects, mono-cropping, food sovereignty, and climate change.
