Protest against Indian police brutality and the anti-Muslim Act

December 19, 2019 - 11:00am
Outside Old Chapel, Univ. of Massachusetts Amherst, USA

Gather at UMass Amherst to protest against the Indian police brutality targetting especially Muslim students. Please join in solidarity with the students, faculty and staff of Jamia Millia Islamia and Aligarh Muslim University, and condemn this violent police and state action. Come and affirm the right of citizens to peaceful protest and the autonomy of the university as a non-militarized space for freedom of thought and expression. The ongoing brutalization of students and the attack on universities is against the fundamental norms of a democratic society.

The protest as it is a part of large number of protests that are happening across the US now in response to the violence that the fascist government in India is inflicting upon everyone, but most specifically against Muslims and Dalits. The police violence on campuses against which this specific protest is directed, is also a part of a larger insidious scheme to disenfranchise the large Muslim community in India and reduce them to second class citizens in their own country. The government has already started building detention camps as more than 1.9 million people have lost citizenship in only one state of India (Assam) where the draconian National Register of Citizens (NRC) has already been updated.

If your organization would like to support or formally endorse this protest, please write to

Link to a solidarity statement to sign to strongly condemn the police brutality on Indian campuses and the Islamophobic acts of the current fascist government in India.
