UMass Women in Science: Alexandra Pope
Alexandra Pope, associate professor of astronomy at UMass Amherst, looks back in time to see how stars and black holes co-evolved in galaxies 12 billion years ago. “I feel very lucky that I get to think about these important questions,” says Pope. Her favorite research experience is traveling with her students to the campus’s Large Millimeter Telescope (LMT) located high atop the summit of an extinct volcano in Mexico to make observations.
