Heritage and Society: Public Life in a Multicultural World

The image above was taken at a cultural festival in Tarpum Bay, Eleuthera, celebrating the opening of a Cultural Center. The UMass Amherst Center for Heritage and Society (CHS) has undertaken a project on the island focused on cultural heritage in the context of economic and community development, in collaboration with the One Eleuthera Foundation. Directed by antropologist Elizabeth Chilton, CHS develops multidisciplinary approaches to heritage conservation and communication around the world. The Center offers research opportunities for scholars and students working in heritage related fields such as archaeology, history, environmental science, landscape architecture and regional planning, Native American Indian Studies, Afro-American Studies, classics, legal studies, and public policy.
