Free Keys: Public Art Project Gives Community Access to Pianos

Pictured above is one of three painted pianos from the UMass student-led public art project Free Keys. According to project manager Owen Henry, Free Keys is intended to connect student-artists with the larger campus community by placing painted pianos, such as this, available for public use in prominent gathering spots on campus. Henry, a biochemistry and molecular biology student with a minor in classical piano performance, credits the support of the UMass community and many organizations within it for helping his project take flight. Each design motif was painted by undergraduates and every piano is open for everyone to play and enjoy. (Read More)
