The Worldwide Universities Network (WUN) is a leading global higher education and research network comprised of 18 universities, spanning 11 countries on five continents. It supports 90 active research initiatives, engaging over 2,000 researchers and students collaborating on a diverse range of projects. These initiatives are committed to addressing some of the world’s most urgent challenges and are supported by numerous partners, including the United Nations Foundation, the World Bank, the OECD, and the World Health Organization. Earlier this year, UMass Amherst was invited to join the WUN and we are now one of two U.S. members of this international network.
The Research Development Fund (RDF) is an annual competitive fund of the WUN aimed at bringing together researchers to undertake innovative, high quality, sustainable research that addresses global challenges: http://wun.ac.uk/research-development.html. The RDF 2016 will provide up to £12,000 (approx. $17,000 USD) to foster innovative, international collaborative research and mobility programs. The aim is to bring the researchers and resources of world leading universities together to develop solutions that no one university or nation can solve alone. These grants support research collaborations in four challenge areas of the WUN: (1) responding to climate change; (2) public health; (3) global higher education and research; and (4) understanding cultures. More information on these global challenges can be found on the WUN website and will be discussed at the information session.
Those interested in the information session will learn about WUN, the university's membership in it, opportunities for faculty afforded by WUN participation, and the application process for the Research Development Fund, including university cost matching commitments.
