New to Campus

Research and Engagement provides a wide variety of support services for faculty and other researchers new to the UMass Amherst campus. Please complete the PI arrival questionnaire if you will be transferring awards.

All researchers who plan to apply for sponsored activities are required to use the campus electronic system which is accessed with UMass credentials. Obtaining these ID numbers can be done in advance of arriving on campus. Please see Access to Research Electronic Data Systems for more information. All proposals to external funding sources in support of sponsored programs, are submitted by the Office of Pre-Award Services (OPAS). View the University policy.

Proposals are due to OPAS five working days before the sponsor deadline. Please review the Five-Day Proposal Submission Procedure Overview to become acquainted with the procedure. For assistance and questions please contact the appropriate member of the Pre-award team. Principal Investigators have specific Roles and Responsibilities that may be reviewed in the policy and the Roles and Responsibilities matrix. Staff may available at the department or college level, or you may request fee-for-service proposal development support from R&E Proposal Support Services.

The units of Research and Engagement also host a variety of workshops and trainings to assist researchers in developing competitive proposals, effectively manage projects, and comply with all University, state and federal requirements while carrying out research.
