Changes to Research and Libraries Operations for Summer and Fall 2021, Update #2

Campus Announcement: Changes to Research and Libraries Operations for Summer and Fall 2021, Update #2 - 5/4/21

NOTE: An update to #5 as of 5/6/21 - Based on new guidance from the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, international students who are inoculated with a vaccine approved by the World Health Organization (currently AstraZeneca, J&J, Moderna, and Pfizer) will satisfy the UMass requirement for vaccinations.  Arriving students who have not received a vaccine or who have received a vaccine not approved by the WHO will need to follow Massachusetts guidelines for quarantine that are in place at the time of arrival.  More information and updates will be available in the campus COVID-19 Frequently asked Questions.

Research Plans for Summer 2021

We have received several responses to an earlier query indicating an interest in organizing in-person research activities this summer such as the NSF Research Experience for Undergraduates, similar NIH programs, or other activities. Please review the guidelines in an email sent on March 22, 2021

Note: The guidelines are subject to change with respect to COVID-19 health and safety as the public health situation warrants but should let you begin planning.

Compliance with Testing

RLOP faculty leads and faculty backup leads who are not regularly coming to campus can be exempted from COVID-19 testing by emailing reopening@research.umass.edu.

Changes in other RLOP personnel (students, staff, post-docs) should still be accomplished via the RLOP Personnel Change Request Form. This process ensures that the Public Health Promotion Center testing lists remain current as to participants who are on-site for RLOP activities. Check the UMass Asymptomatic Testing site for whom testing is required.

For assistance, please email reopening@research.umass.edu.

Mount Ida Innovation and Collaboration Space. The Mount Ida campus of UMass Amherst is a hub for innovation, connecting research and industry. It was established by UMass Amherst and the UMass Innovation Institute (UMII) to connect early-stage companies with our campus, the Commonwealth’s largest public research university. The collaborative workspace is also open for use by UMass Amherst departments that have a need for office or touchdown space in the Boston area. For more info, contact kathrynellis@umass.edu.
