2014 Blavatnik Awards for Young Scientists

The University of Massachusetts Amherst has been invited to submit nominations for the inaugural year of the national faculty competition of the Blavatnik Awards for Young Scientist. These newly expanded awards build upon a regional program that, since 2007, has recognized outstanding scientists age 42 years and younger from institutions in the New York tri-state area.  Through this national expansion of the faculty competition, the Blavatnik Awards for Young Scientists will now seek to recognize and celebrate the top emerging scientific talent from across the country.

We are able to nominate one outstanding young faculty member in each of three disciplinary categories: Life Sciences, Physical Sciences & Engineering, and Chemistry.

Nominees who reach the final round of the competition will be designated as Blavatnik Science Scholars and represent the country’s best and brightest young science faculty.  Of this elite group, three candidates (one from each disciplinary category) will be named Blavatnik Laureates.  Through the generosity of the Blavatnik Family Foundation, each Laureate will receive $250,000 in unrestricted funds as well as an invitation to publish a review or perspective article in Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences on the topic for which he/she is being recognized.  The Awards will be conferred at a formal ceremony and celebration in New York City in September 2014.
