The Camille Dreyfus Teacher-Scholar Awards Program supports the research and teaching careers of talented young faculty in the chemical sciences in departments that grant a doctoral degree. Based on institutional nominations, the program provides discretionary funding to faculty at an early stage in their careers. Criteria for selection include an independent body of scholarship attained early in their independent careers and a demonstrated commitment to education, signaling the promise of continuing outstanding contributions to both research and teaching.
The Camille Dreyfus Teacher-Scholar Awards Program provides an unrestricted research grant of $100,000. UMass Amherst may submit one nomination annually to this opportunity.
- Applicants must hold a full-time tenure-track academic appointment.
- Applicants are "normally expected to have been appointed no earlier than mid-year 2013." Per the Dreyfus Foundation: "Most awardees are 3-4 years into their appointments. First- and second-year applicants are not usually competitive."
- Applicants must be from a PhD-granting department in which scholarly research is a principal activity.
- Undergraduate education must be an important part of the applicant's activities.
- Renominations are accepted.

- Approximately 13-15 awards per year

Internal Application Process
One candidate will be selected from UMass Amherst to submit to this opportunity. The internal selection process will be informed by the grant program's guidelines and submission requirements and led by a committee composed of the deans of applicants' respective schools and colleges or their designees and, if necessary, the Provost, Vice Chancellor for Research Engagement, and/or faculty with relevant expertise.

- A summary of your research accomplishments and research plans (up to three pages).

- Month and year of first appointment as an independent researcher. Per award guidelines: "Nominees are normally expected to have been appointed no earlier than mid-year 2013." This can be included in the body of the internal submission email.
The Foundation seeks Camille Dreyfus Teacher-Scholars who demonstrate leadership in research and education. Nominations must provide compelling evidence of the advance of important knowledge in the chemical sciences by the nominee. Further, the nomination should describe dedication and contributions to education in the chemical sciences, particularly with respect to undergraduates.
The nominee's scholarly research achievements are assessed by a panel of distinguished faculty in the chemical sciences. The letters of recommendation should address the nominee's research accomplishments as an independent faculty member. Other considered factors are: awards and honors, publication of research achievements in leading journals, and success in attracting research funding.
