"Capturing and Eroding the Self: From Self-Portraiture to the Selfie," a talk by John Garton, Associate Professor of Art History, Clark University
What is new about a "selfie?" Does this digital form expand one's perception of self or shrink it? This talk will examine how the tradition of self-portraiture pioneered in the Renaissance and other early modern epochs is being renovated by the digital selfie. What is the purpose of a selfie and is there an art to making one? Clark University Associate Professor Esteban Cardemil (Psychology) will offer commentary.
