Personal Training Procedures
Thank you for your interest in training with us. Our goal is to educate clients to exercise safely and effectively for life. Our trainers will work with you to develop a fitness program based on your goals and fitness level. We will work closely with you to assess your progress. Along the way, we'll provide you with the knowledge, guidance and resources so you become comfortable and confident in any fitness/weight room environment.
- Personal training participants must complete and submit the Registration Package, and the Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire (PAR-Q Form) prior to scheduling the first session. You must complete the Registration Packet before purchasing your sessions package.
- If you check "Yes" to any questions on the PAR-Q questionnaire, you must also complete and return a Medical Release Form (download below) prior to beginning training sessions. By meeting at least one of these criteria, you may be at increased risk for illness or injury.
- Participants may purchase one personal training package at a time.
- Participants may purchase additional training packages upon completion of the original package.
- Personal training packages/sessions should be used within the semester in which they were purchased. Full refunds are not available once the sessions have begun. If unused sessions remain at the conclusion of the semester, these sessions may roll over and be used in the following semester at the discretion and approval of senior fitness staff.
- Sessions are non-transferable.
- Each participant will be assigned one trainer per group of sessions/package.
- Clients are assigned to trainers based on availability.
- Personal training packages for first-time clients include a complimentary Intro Session (fitness assessment and body composition measurement)
- Returning Patrons who purchase a 10-session package may receive a complimentary fitness assessment and body composition package. Returning patrons purchasing a 2, 4, 6, or 8 session package may purchase a fitness assessment and/or body composition measurement at the regular price.
- The personal trainer and the client will agree to complete the sessions purchased. Sessions will be scheduled at mutually convenient, agreed upon times.
- If the client is unable to make a scheduled session, he/she must notify the personal trainer at least 24 hours in advance. Failure to do so could result in the client forfeiting the session and no payment reimbursement will be granted.
- Recreation & Wellbeing permits a 15-minute grace period for late arrival to a scheduled session. The trainer will only wait 15 minutes past the scheduled meeting time, unless the client has alerted the trainer of the expected lateness. The personal trainer may or may not be able to extend the training session to make up the 15 minutes.
- Please be aware that we may need to close and/or limit personal training registrations when we reach capacity. What does this mean and why? It means we will not accept any new client registrations although returning clients can continue. Our trainers may have reached capacity with respect to taking on new clients. The decision to close/limit registrations is determined by senior fitness staff.
For more information, stop by the Recreation Center or email Edward Collins at @email or Gregg Hannum at @email.

Equipment Orientations
Recreation & Wellbeing offers free equipment orientations to members, providing an overview of the facility layout and the center's policies and procedures. You'll learn about the available cardiovascular and strength equipment, including how to turn on and program the machines and the basics of using strength training equipment. We'll also provide basic recommendations for getting started at the gym.
Please wear appropriate athletic attire. Orientations last about one hour and are designed for 1-3 people. We can arrange a session for larger groups during non-peak hours, depending on space availability.
Please note, equipment orientations are not personal training sessions. For personal training information, click on registration procedures.

First Sessions
First sessions are approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour long where your assigned advisor will get to know you, your lifestyle, goals you have for yourself, and build a sense of trust between you and them. By the end of the session, most clients walk away with a S.M.A.R.T goal* that they’ve created with the assistance of the advisor to work on until the next scheduled meeting.
*Most advisors will have the client fill out a 3-day food log as part of or in addition to their goal so they can get a better sense of the client’s eating habits but this is dependent on the situation
Follow-up Sessions
Sessions range anywhere from 10 minutes to 1 hour, depending on the client’s needs. Here, the goals set in the first session will be revisited and options for next steps explored. While the number of follow-up sessions is determined between the client and advisor, most people meet once or twice more after the first session.
