Flag Football

7-on-7 (8-on-8 for Co-Rec) flag football is an officiated, non-contact game played on 80 x 40 yard fields. Pitching the ball downfield and misdirection are a large part of the game. The most successful teams use some sort of zone coverage. Games are played on the intramural fields under the lights adjacent to the Champions Center and Mullins Center.

2-Ball Soccer

A 2-week indoor tournament. Two balls are in play for a very fast-paced, high-scoring game. Penalty kicks are taken in between halves and at the end of the game once fouls are tallied. Other than for an official's timeout, play is non-stop.Games are played at Boyden Gymnasium.

Q:  What are intramural sports?

A: Intramural sports are organized leagues, tournaments and sports activities divided into separate skill levels for students, faculty and staff. 

Q:  Why get involved?

A: Intramural sports offer activities that promote fun and fair play. Among other benefits, they are a great way to meet new people, relieve stress, build self-esteem, and provide leadership opportunities for those interested.

Q: What intramural sports are offered each semester?  

A: Please refer to the Intramural sport listings (above) for a complete listing of intramural sports for each semester.

Q: How many teams can I play on?

A: Each participant may play on one women's or open team and one co-rec team per sport per season (for a total of two teams per sport activity per season). Participants are encouraged to try multiple activities throughout each semester.

Q: How do I sign up a team?

A: We offer online registration. To register for an activity, download the FusionPlay app (see top of Intramurals page)

1. Please follow the instructions on the sign-up guide (see link above)
2. If you have any questions about the eligibility of a player on your team, please get approval in the Campus Recreation office (112 Recreation Center) prior to your first game.
3. Arrive to play with your team a few minutes prior to game time to properly warm up and sign in each player with their valid UCard.

Q: What is the difference between the Top Gun and Just Fun leagues?  

A: Some activities use a seeding system. These sports are separated into two levels of play: Top Gun and Just Fun. Top Gun is the most competitive level of play. Highly skilled, experienced teams should select this level. Just Fun is more recreational and less competitive. Teams with novice players are strongly encouraged to select this level of play. The winners of the Just Fun league will win a commemorative t-shirt while the winners of the Top Gun league will win a Championship T-shirt. If there is no Just Fun or Top Gun designation in a league, then all teams will play for the Championship T-shirt.

Q: How many people per team?  

A: Check the individual sport pages on IMLeagues. Most sports activities allow teams to have as many as 20 players on their rosters, provided they are eligible. A few activities have a firm max. Meaning there can only be a specified number of individuals on a team.

Q: How/when/where can I add/delete players?  

A: Players can be added online through the use of FusionPlay throughout the entire season. Players may also be added to the roster at the game site. Although people can be added at the game site throughout league play, it is strongly suggested that people are added online 24 hours in advance of their game to save time when signing in players. The 24 hours will allow the new individual's name to appear on the scoresheet. Arrive early to the game site to allow for adding additional players. If the player is a grad/fac/staff or CE student, a $20 fee must be paid at Member Services and a receipt shown prior to that person participating, unless that player has current recreation membership. Money will not be taken at the game site. Deleting a participant from a roster after they have played in a game must be done in the Recreation & Wellbeing office (112 Recreation Center).

Q: What if I don’t have a team?  

A: All individuals who wish to play a sport, but do not have a team, may sign up as a free agent on  FusionPlay (see instructions above).

Q: Where do I pick up schedules for the season?  

A: Schedules are posted online through the FusionPlay app.

Q: What happens if I don't go to a mandatory playoff captains meeting?

A: Certain activities require that all teams that are eligible have a representative in attendance at the playoff meeting. If the captain is unable to attend, there must be another player from that team in attendance to receive the necessary information. This representative is then responsible for notifying the team of any changes in rules, policies or procedures for the specific sport. If a representative is not present, the team is ineligible for playoffs. 

Q: What are sportsmanship points?  How are they related to intramural sports?  

A: Sportsmanship points are the 0-4 scale (with 4 as the highest and 0 the lowest) awarded to each team based on their conduct during any intramural contest. Teams are required to maintain an average of 2.75 sportsmanship points for the season to be eligible for playoffs.

Q: What happens if someone on my team is ejected?  

A: It is the captain's and ejected player's responsibility to set up a meeting by appointment with Campus Recreation staff. The team will be ineligible to participate until the player(s) meets with Recreation & Wellbeing staff. The player(s) will also not be permitted to participate in any intramural activity until they have met with Campus Recreation staff. Further sanctions may apply. 

Q: How do we become eligible for playoffs?  

A: To compete in the playoffs, a team must have attended the mandatory playoff captains meeting if applicable, have the required sportsmanship points, have no more than one forfeit and pay the forfeit fee (if forfeited once), and fulfill any other playoff criteria specific to that activity.

Q: I am interested in becoming an official.  What should I do? 

A: Any individual interested in becoming an UMass intramural official should inquire in the Recreation Center.

Q: Do I need experience in the related sport(s) to be an official?

A: No experience is necessary, but it is preferred. We require all our officials to go through a comprehensive training program prior to officiating their first game.

I. Assumption of Risk 

Participation in intramural activities is strictly voluntary. There are risks inherent to participation in sports and recreation. The University does not assume responsibility for personal injuries or loss of property. Injuries and their resulting costs are the responsibility of the participant. Recreation & Wellbeing strongly advises participants to take advantage of a University-sponsored insurance plan or a private insurance policy.

Health insurance coverage is required for all University students and all intramural participants. Enrollment in the University without insurance may result in an individual’s removal from the University.

II. General Eligibility

Each individual is responsible for the verification of their eligibility. Team captains must also accept the responsibility for the eligibility status of any participant representing their respective teams. Questions regarding participant eligibility should be brought to the attention of senior Intramural Sports staff.

All undergraduate and graduate students currently enrolled in the University of Massachusetts Amherst and UMass Amherst faculty/staff are eligible to participate in intramural activities sponsored by Recreation & Wellbeing, except as provided by special eligibility rules. 

Students on academic probation are permitted to compete in intramural activities. Only probationary cases which the Dean of Students office feels are of a nature that warrant non-participation will be ineligible.

Each individual, as well as the team captain, is responsible for verifying their eligibility:

• Undergraduates currently enrolled at the University of Massachusetts
• Graduate students, continuing education students, faculty and staff who have purchased a recreation membership for the semester
• Graduate students, continuing education students, faculty and staff who have paid an intramural entry fee of $20 per sport/team to participate in intramurals. Note: these individuals do not have access to other recreation facilities or services.

The following individuals are ineligible for Intramural Sports:

• Anyone not currently enrolled as a student at the University of Massachusetts Amherst or employed by the University as faculty or staff.
• Current varsity athletes in their varsity sport or related sport. See Varsity Athletes below in Definitions.
• Professional and Olympic athletes are ineligible to participate in intramural activities in their professional and/or Olympic sport or related sports.

The following individuals may be ineligible for intramural sports depending on the rules of the activity or the makeup of the intramural team:

• Students subject to probation or suspension through Recreation & Wellbeing or the Dean of Students office.
• Club sport athlete in an intramural offering similar to the club which they are a member of (see specific sport rules).
• Former varsity athletes in their varsity sport or related sport.

Any team with a current club sport athlete in the related activity must play in the Top Gun level if it is offered.

Any team with a former varsity athlete in their related sport or activity may not have current club players and must play in the Top Gun level if it is offered.

A. Definitions

Club Sport: Any registered student organization recognized by the Student Government Association.

Club Sport Member: Anyone practicing, competing or traveling with the team at any point during the academic year.

Current Varsity Athlete: Any athlete who participates in a game/match or is listed on an active varsity roster at any time during the school year is ineligible in their sport or related sport for the remainder of that academic year.

Former Varsity Athlete: Any varsity athlete who has gone a full academic year without participating in a game/match or being listed on an active Varsity roster.

B. Sport/Activity Eligibility

Players must:

• Be listed on the official team roster online at Fusionplay and/or on the scoresheet with complete information listed (full name, student ID number and UMass email).
• Present their valid UCard as originally issued (clearly visible name, face and number) for an intramural activity/contest.
• Play for only one team in a specific league (Open, Women’s, Co-Rec).

Any team found violating any eligibility rules will be given a loss and no higher than a 2 sportsmanship for each game which the ineligible player participated. Additional sanctions may apply.

Any player found participating as an ineligible player will be subject to sanctions from Recreation & Wellbeing. Players intentionally violating eligibility rules or using deception to participate while ineligible will be suspended for a semester from intramural sports.

UCard Requirement (No UCard=No Play) 
Each intramural participant must present their UMass UCard before every intramural activity. Participants will not be permitted to play without their UCard. The UCard must be as originally issued with photograph, name and student number all clearly visible.

III. Intramural Structure

A. Leagues

Three leagues are available in most intramural sports:

Open: Open divisions are open to all participants regardless of gender. There are no rules regarding gender for these divisions.

Women’s: Women’s divisions are only open to those identifying as women.

Co-Rec: Co-Rec leagues are leagues where men and women participate on the field/court at the same time. These leagues may have modified rules regarding participation with the goal of increasing participation for all involved.

When an activity makes a gender designation, individuals may participate in the activity based on their gender identity. If an individual’s gender identity does not fit within the binary framework of man/woman or the person is in the process of transitioning to a different gender, participation in a particular gender-designated activity will be handled on a case-by-case basis.

Players may play on

• One Open OR one Women’s team AND
• One Co-Rec team

In most team sports, leagues will be organized into divisions based on time and skill level. Playoff criteria will depend on the league and activity, which can be found in captain’s videos as well as on IMLeagues.

B. Skill Level

Top Gun: teams seeking a competitive level of play. Skilled and experience teams should select this level of play. Top Gun teams will compete for the championship T-shirt.

Just Fun: teams seeking a recreational, less competitive level of play. Teams with novice players are encouraged to choose this level of play. The winners of Just Fun leagues will receive a commemorative T-shirt.

Recreation & Wellbeing staff reserves the right to move teams to the Top Gun level for postseason play in extenuating circumstances.

C. Tournaments

Scheduling formats will be finalized and released at the close of registration.

Teams/individuals may be required to attend an RSVP meeting following registration in order to be included in the tournament.

D. Forfeits

In most sports/activities, teams will be granted a five-minute grace period from the scheduled game time. Forfeits will be assessed to all teams who fail to have the minimum number of players signed in and ready to participate to begin or continue a game. The minimum number of players required varies by sport and can be found in those sport rules.

E. Sport Rules

Intramural rules are adopted from a national governing body, such as Amateur Softball Association (ASA), National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), National Federation of High School Sports (NFHS), and the National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA). Intramural staff have also developed rule adaptations to enhance the overall experience and safety of the participants. 

All intramural participants agree to abide by all rules and regulations. Recreation & Wellbeing reserves the right to institute any rule changes and/or modifications. Rules for individual intramural sports are available on the Campus Recreation website and are linked on the sport's IMLeagues page. 

IV. Team Entry 

A. FusionPlay App

All intramural participants will need to create an account the FusionPlay app (see above). Live support is available on the FusionPlay app.

3. Set up your profile
4. Create a team or sign up as a free agent.
5. Register for the activity during registration.

1. Activity registrations will be open for one week, but you are encouraged to organize and add players to your team prior to registration by signing up on that league or tournament's waitlist. Team creation will be open the first day of the semester for all activities. It is suggested one starts the process a week before registration.

2. Watch the online Captain's Video and pass the quiz with an 80% or better during the team creation process.

3. Now your team will be listed on the waitlist, but you are not done! You must add the minimum number of players to your team for that activity prior to registration. 

   • The minimum number of players required varies from sport to sport and can be found on the sport page on IMLeagues. The minimum number of players is always the same as the number required to field a full team without subs. For example, in 7-on-7 flag football, the minimum required to register your team is seven, but is eight for the co-rec variation of that sport because co-rec is played 8-on-8.

   • The waitlist prior to registration is where created teams continue to organize and add players in preparation for the registration process.

   • The waitlist after registration is where teams that have either failed to choose a spot in a division or created their team after the registration process. These teams will be contacted in order of teams that added the minimum number of players to their team first. They will be offered whatever remaining spots are available, but spots will not be guaranteed.

4. Once registration has begun, if the activity is a league sport, one must choose the division in which one wishes to play (i.e. Open 12 TG Wednesdays @ 8; Open 13 JF Thursdays @ 6; Women's 1 Mondays @ 7, etc.). 

   • Registrations are first come, first served.

   • Must have the minimum number of players on the roster to choose a spot.

   • After the registration period ends, teams still on the waitlist will not automatically be scheduled.

V. Team Management 

A. Captain's/Player's Meetings

For all intramural sports, each captain must have completed the sport’s mandatory online Captain's Video and pass the quiz. Some activities will require a mandatory playoff meeting. A team member may attend in the place of a team captain. It is important that a representative from each team is at the meeting to receive pertinent information about the sport rules, format, playoffs, etc. Any team not represented at the playoff captain's meeting will not be eligible for the playoffs.

B. Captain's Responsibilities 

• Complete all necessary steps to sign up the team.
  • Complete mandatory online Captains Video and pass the quiz.
  • Create an appropriate team name.
  • Provide contact information via IMLeagues.
  • Add the minimum number of players to the roster prior to registration.
  • Select a day and time that the team is available and committed to play.
    • Postponements will only be granted under special circumstances. See Postponements below.
  • Read, understand and communicate all intramural sports policies, procedures and rules of the sport/activity to all team members.
  • Attend any required meetings for the sport/activity.
• Serve as the team's representative throughout the season.
  • Ensure the eligibility of all players on the roster.
  • Direct teammates to IMLeagues and the Recreation & Wellbeing website for crucial information including schedules and sport rules.
  • Have the team present, signed in and ready to play at the scheduled game time. A five-minute grace period will be allowed in most sports/activities.
  • Represent the team at the pregame captain’s meeting and serve as the team representative to the officials throughout the contest.

  • Model exemplary sportsmanship and civility toward teammates, opponents, intramural staff and encourage teammates and spectators to do the same.
  • Check IMLeagues in case of an incorrect result or postponement due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances.

• Postseason
  • Ensure that the captain or a team representative is present at the any required playoff meetings.
  • When applicable, select the teams place in the playoff bracket.
  • Ensure that the team and all players maintain eligibility throughout the playoffs.
  • Notify intramural staff as soon as possible if a postponement is required during the playoffs. See Postponements below.

C. Protests

Captains have the ability to protest rulings made by officials during intramural contests.

Captains may protest:

• Misapplication of rules – as an example, if an official incorrectly assessed a five-yard penalty when a ten-yard penalty should have been assessed. 
• Player eligibility – protests involving alleged eligibility violations must be made prior to the start of play. If the game is in progress at the time of the alleged violation (i.e. the player or players in question join the game late), the team captain must immediately & verbally communicate the protest to a game official. 

The accuracy of an official’s judgement call will not be considered as a protest.

In order to protest, team captains must inform a game official prior to the next play that they wish to “protest” (the word “protest” must be used). Protests will not be considered once play resumes following an official's ruling. For protests of player eligibility, this must be done prior to the game, or prior to a player entering a game if the player in question arrived late.

Once a protest has been verbally communicated to a game official, play will be stopped and every attempt will be made to rule on the protest immediately by the game officials and supervisors on site. Once a ruling has been made, play will resume. Any protest made after the completion of the game will not be considered.

D. Appeals

Protests ruled on by game officials and on-site supervisors may be appealed in writing by the team captain following the conclusion of the activity. A Protest/Appeal Form must be completed by the team captain and handed in to the Recreation & Wellbeing office by 12:00pm the day following the activity. If a written appeal is upheld, the game will be played from the point at which the improper decision was made, or in its entirety, to correct the error. In some cases, Intramural Sports staff and both team captains may agree to a non-playing solution. If a protest is denied, the game stands. Appeals must be submitted to the Senior Assistant Director for Sport Programs. Due to severe time constraints, written appeals regarding playoff games must be submitted to the Recreation & Wellbeing office immediately after the conclusion of an activity.

E. Schedule Changes 

For schedule changes due to circumstances such as inclement weather, University closings or unforeseen circumstances, the team captain(s) is/are responsible for obtaining reschedule information from the Recreation & Wellbeing office or IMLeagues.com.

F. Postponements

Due to a number of factors, postponements will be granted only under special circumstances.

Postponements should be initiated by captains as early as possible. No activity will be postponed unless a Postponement Request Form has been completed and signed by both team captains and approved by the Associate and/or Assistant Director for Intramural Sports by 12pm the day of the originally scheduled contest. It is highly recommended that, if the game is scheduled on the weekend, on Monday, or on a day following a holiday weekend, the postponement form be completed by 5:00pm on the Friday prior to the scheduled contest. This will allow us the time necessary to contact appropriate staff. The captains must appear together at the same time in the Recreation & Wellbeing office. It is there that the form will be reviewed and a decision rendered. The rescheduling of any game must be agreed upon by both team captains at the same time in the office in consultation with the Associate and/or Assistant Director for Intramural Sports.

In the case of playoff contests, captains must notify the Associate and/or Assistant Director for Intramural Sports ASAP. Every effort should be made to speak to the captains of the teams that the postponing captain may play when the previous round's games have concluded that evening. Otherwise, both captains will have to notify the Associate and/or Assistant Director for Intramural Sports by 2pm the day of the game confirming that both teams can switch to an available time already discussed with Intramural Sports staff or the request to postpone will be denied. 

G. Forfeits

Teams are granted a five-minute grace period from the actual scheduled game time. Any team that fails to check-in and be ready to play by the conclusion of the five-minute grace period will be charged with a forfeit. Similarly, a forfeit will result when a team fails to have the minimum number of players to begin or continue a game. Refer to the specific sport rules for the minimum number of players required.

A $20 forfeit fee will be required after one forfeit to regain playoff eligibility. This fee must be paid at Member Services (front desk) at the Recreation Center by 5:00pm the business day prior to the scheduled playoff meeting date. All forfeits will be recorded as a loss. In the event of a double forfeit, both teams will receive a loss. A team that forfeits twice in a season will not be permitted to pay a forfeit fee. In this circumstance, the team will not be eligible for the playoffs and may be dropped from the schedule. If there are teams on the waitlist, then a team may be replaced after their first forfeit. Forfeit fees will be refunded should a team fail to qualify for the playoffs

H. Sport Rules

Intramural rules are adopted from a national governing body, such as Amateur Softball Association (ASA), National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), National Federation of High School Sports (NFHS), and the National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA). Intramural Sports staff have also developed rule adaptations to enhance the overall experience and safety of the participants. 

All intramural participants agree to abide by all rules and regulations. Campus Recreation reserves the right to institute any rule changes and/or modifications. Rules for individual intramural sports are available on the Recreation & Wellbeing website and are linked on the sport's FusionPlay page. 

VI. Game Management 

A. Intramural Managers and Officials

With the exception of full-time professional staff, intramural managers and officials are University of Massachusetts Amherst students. Intramural managers and officials are on site to assist participants with questions, supervise games and the conduct of players and spectators, and oversee a safe and enjoyable atmosphere. 

Intramural managers have full responsibility for the administration of all games/contests, including pre-game and post-game, and matters not specifically covered in the Intramural Participant's Guide or sport rules. Any questions about policies, procedures and game administration should be brought to the Intramural Managers.

Intramural officials have full responsibility for the enforcement of the rules specific to each game/contest, including pregame and postgame, and matters not specifically covered in the sport rules.

Because intramural managers and officials are students, interactions between students are governed by the Student Code of Conduct. Behavior that is in violation of the Student Code of Conduct may be reported to the Dean of Students office.

B. UCard Requirement (No UCard=No Play)

Each intramural participant must present their UMass UCard before each and every intramural activity. Participants will not be permitted to play without their UCard. The UCard must be as originally issued with photograph, name and student number.

No other form of ID will be accepted. UCard replacement can be done at the UCard office in 168 Whitmore.

C. Athletic Attire

Intramural rules relative to athletic attire are adopted from a national governing body, such as the ASA, NCAA, NFHS and NIRSA. Intramural Sports Staff shall not permit any player to wear any item that is deemed unsafe or dangerous to participants. Proper athletic attire must be worn at all times during all intramural activities. Proper attire pertains to all articles of clothing, including upper and lower body clothing and footwear. Participants must wear a shirt and wear athletic footwear (no bare feet) at all times during competition. Prohibited footwear includes metal cleats, boots, sandals/flip-flops, any form of open-toed shoes, or barefoot running shoes such as, but not limited to: Vibram five-fingered shoes, Nike Free shoes, or Adidas Sport AdiPURE shoes. Jeans, khakis, corduroy pants and shorts are prohibited. Players must wear some sort of athletic shorts or pants, but will not be permitted to only wear compression shorts or boxers.

Due to health concerns regarding the use of shared equipment, and in an attempt to minimize certain risks, intramural sports has adopted a t-shirt/jersey policy for intramural activities.

Uniforms
Matching color team shirts are required in all variations of basketball, broomball, field hockey, flag football, floor hockey, soccer, speedball & ultimate frisbee. Soccer requires each goalie to have a different color shirt from their teammates and opponents. One or two-digit numbers are required in basketball and must be at least 3" in height. The use of digits between 0-5 is preferred. Numbers cannot be taped to the back of the shirt, as these tend to fall off. 

Teams will have the opportunity to choose a jersey color when registering their team. White, gray and other colors that could be perceived as white or gray will not be permitted. The team is required to have all players wear the same shade of color to every game. Teams are required to bring an alternate white jersey to each game. Prior to game time, the intramural officials, in conjunction with the intramural managers, will determine if a conflict exists regarding jersey colors. The team in violation of the policy will be asked to wear their alternate white jerseys. In the event they do not have an alternate white jersey, that team will forfeit. If two teams have the same jersey color, a coin flip will determine which team wears the alternate white jersey. If neither team has alternate white jerseys, thus causing a game to not be played, both teams will forfeit the game. 

Intramural sports recognizes there are cases in which t-shirt colors will not match exactly. We strive to ensure that participants are able to play while maintaining the integrity of the game. The intramural manager has the discretion to allow a participant to play when the t-shirt shade does not exactly match their teammates. For example, if Team A is wearing black shirts and Team B is wearing orange shirts, the intramural manager may allow a player from Team B to wear a shirt that is red, so long as both the officials and manager feel there will be no confusion to staff or participants. As another example, if Team B has orange jerseys and Team C has red, the intramural manager would not allow a Team B player to wear a red shirt as this would cause confusion. This does mean that a team could potentially be able to use a shirt one week but not the next. Teams must always bring their alternate jersey to ensure their ability to play.

Jewelry
Jewelry may not be worn by any individual participating in any intramural activity. This includes, but is not limited to, earrings, necklaces, piercings, watches, bracelets (cloth and livestrong bracelets included), hair barrettes, and any other forms of jewelry.

Medical Alert Jewelry
Medical alert bracelets and necklaces are permitted, but must be taped to the body. Medical alert jewelry is permissible because that safety concern supersedes the safety concern of the policy above. 

Religious Jewelry or Headwear
Should an individual wish to request to wear jewelry or prohibited headwear during intramural activities that is religious in nature, a meeting must be scheduled with intramural sports professional staff prior to the date of the scheduled contest to ensure safety concerns can be met. No exceptions will be made at the game site for safety reasons.

D. Equipment

Intramural rules regarding equipment are adopted from a national governing body, such as the ASA, NCAA, NFHS and NIRSA. Recreation & Wellbeing reserves the right to put into effect any rules or regulations to protect the health and safety of participants involved in intramural activities.

Intramural Sports will supply some equipment for intramural activities but will not provide some personal items (softball gloves, field hockey sticks, etc.). Game balls will be provided if necessary, but participants are encouraged to bring their own. Warm up balls will not be provided. In certain activities, the use of a game ball provided by Intramural Sports may be required. 

Intramural Sports staff, including managers and officials, will not permit any player to use equipment that is deemed unsafe or dangerous to participants.

E. Sportsmanship

Team Behavior
Every team and team captain is responsible for the conduct of its players and spectators. Any conduct judged by an intramural supervisor, official or professional staff member to be detrimental to the participants, program, or any particular intramural activity may result in removal from a contest and/or further disciplinary action by Recreation & Wellbeing.

Spectator Behavior
Spectators and fans are welcomed and encouraged to attend intramural sport activities. Team captains are responsible for the behavior of their spectators. Captains and/or teams will be held accountable for any inappropriate behavior by the fans. Fans are expected to show good sportsmanship, follow the policies and procedures in this guide and do their part to create a positive, enjoyable atmosphere.

Cheating/Dishonesty
Any individual who is determined to have cheated may be disqualified from intramural activities for the remainder of their University career. If the team they represent is aware of the cheating, that team may be barred from intramural participation for the remainder of the year.
Examples of cheating include, but are not limited to:

• Participating under an assumed name
• Participating while using a false ID
• Playing on more than one team as per intramural eligibility rules
• Withholding information about being a varsity athlete, professional athlete, Olympic athlete, or sport club athlete
• Misrepresenting a score or roster/entry information
• Playing after being suspended from competition

Any individual(s) that exhibits unacceptable behavior that includes, but is not limited to, language that is vulgar, threatening, harassing, intimidating, and/or baiting and taunting may be ejected from the contest. Any individual(s) that, through flagrant misconduct, threatens or endangers the safety of other players, spectators, officials or staff, will be ejected from the contest. Ejections can happen before, during, or after a contest.

Ejections/Sanctions
If any individual is ejected or Intramural Sports staff deems it necessary based on observation or reports of the game, they will be barred from further participation until the individual(s) meet with Intramural Sports staff. The team the individual participates on will remain ineligible until such a meeting takes place or the individual is removed from the team. If the player is removed from the team, the individual will remain ineligible for all activities pending a meeting with Intramural Sports Staff and any subsequent sanctions.

Sanctions will be decided by the appropriate professional staff member, and may include suspension from intramural participation. Sanctions may also include the individual(s) team, and/or an appointment with the Dean of Students office.

Trash Disposal
To maintain a safe playing environment, glass containers are not permitted on the intramural fields/courts. Teams are responsible for cleaning up their respective sidelines.

Sportsmanship Rating System

Intramural Sports seeks to provide a positive and enjoyable atmosphere for all participants, spectators and fans. The Sportsmanship Rating system is in effect for all intramural activities. 

A numeric Sportsmanship Rating will be determined at the conclusion of each contest. Teams will be rated 0 (the worst) through 4 (the best). The rating may be subject to change, both up and down, at the discretion of the Associate and/or Assistant Director. The rating can also be negatively affected as a result of the behavior of a team’s spectators. In addition to qualifying playoff criteria, each team must maintain a 2.75 or better average Sportsmanship Rating during league play to participate in the playoffs. During playoff tournaments, each team must be rated 2 or above to have the opportunity to continue in the playoffs. Teams will be removed from playoffs that display poor sportsmanship. Each team will receive a numeric Sportsmanship Rating based on the following criteria:

4: Players fully cooperate and exhibit no dissent/questioning of judgment call(s).

3: Exhibit minor dissent/questioning of judgment call(s).

2: Behaviors that warrant no higher than a *2:

• Unsporting technical foul, yellow card, unsportsmanlike conduct penalty, "official warning (softball only)"
• Slide tackle
• Dunking (pregame, postgame, halftime or dunking in Boyden at any time)
• Forfeit
• Failure to pick up trash at site 

*Warnings are not necessary to be issued an unsporting call or ejection. It is also not mandatory that one receives two unsporting calls to be ejected. In the case of softball, the unsporting call is referred to as an "official warning" and will impact a team's sportsmanship rating.

• Ejection

0: Behaviors that receive a **0:

• Multiple ejections
• 3 or more unsporting penalties 

**This will cause the game to be forfeited immediately.

• Taunting/baiting
• Use of profanity
• Excessive celebration
• Repetitive questioning of calls
• Abuse of staff
• Slide sackle
• Damage to equipment

Ejection

• On player receiving 2 unsporting penalties
• Flagrant contact
• Fighting
• Damage to equipment
• Perceived to be under the influence of drugs/alcohol
• Abuse of staff
• Throwing equipment at opponent or staff
• Use of profanity
• Attempting to sign in with someone else's UCard
• Any form of deception
• Dunking (pregame, postgame, halftime, or dunking in Boyden at any time)

VII. Tobacco, Alcohol and Illegal Substances

To maintain a safe and healthy environment for everyone, smoking, nicotine & tobacco products, electronic cigarettes & vapes, alcoholic beverages and illegal substances are strictly prohibited at all intramural sports contests and events. Individuals, teams and/or spectators who arrive intoxicated or are suspected of consuming or possessing alcohol or other illegal substances will not be permitted to play, will be asked to leave the playing area, and may face further disciplinary actions.

How do I sign up my team to participate in the Chancellor's Cup?

In FusionPlay, simply name your team after your residence hall and choose any co-rec, open or mixed activity listed below to sign up in.

How many teams can play?
Only one team may represent the same cluster in each league activity, but up to six racers may represent the same cluster Sports Trivia. If more teams sign up than clusters are allotted, we will choose the team to represent the cluster based on when the team was created in IMLeagues.

Does this mean if there are several co‐rec flag football teams that want to play with their hall mates, they cannot play?
Of course they can play, but only one per cluster can play for the Cup.
