Professional Writing and Technical Communication

University of Massachusetts Amherst

English 391C

ENGL 391C is designed to help you to become proficient in HTML/CSS, and to develop a working understanding of best practices for designing web content. Key concepts include (for example): usability, accessibility, and visual hierarchy.

The major and ongoing project for the course is to create an online portfolio that demonstrates your skills as a web designer and professional writer. The portfolio will be built using HTML5 and CSS. Most class time will be given to lab work on some part of the portfolio, and most class sessions will involve an in-class assignment. Regular attendance is a requirement of this course.
