UWiL gives out several thousands of dollars in scholarships every year -- in fact, it's usually the largest part of our budget!
UWiL Internship scholarships
We hope that you use what you learn in UWiL to secure an internship in public service where you can gain hands-on skills and expand your network. However, we also know that too many internships are unpaid and therefore out of reach to students who need to use their summers to earn money. To help make internships more accessible to more students, we offer between $8,000 and $10,000 in scholarships to students who secure unpaid or low paying internships in public service. Students should apply for these scholarships each spring by April 8. The application is available in Academic Works.
UWiL Conference scholarships
UWiL covers registration expenses for our students to attend regional and local conferences on leadership. Past conferences paid for include Young Women Run, the National Conference for College Women Leaders, and the Women of Color Trailblazers Conference, among others. Students will be alerted to these opportunities via email.
Janet Drukarsh Family Fund
Started by Naomi Seligman '95 in honor of her grandmother, the Janet Drukarsh Family Fund provides scholarships to students who find themselves faced with unexpected expenses. A total of $10,000 in scholarships is available every year to students who find themselves struggling to afford college, to pay for every day expenses, or who are faced with unexpected emergencies. Scholarships are generally available for up to $1,000 per student per year. Apply for Drukarsh funding through AcademicWorks AND alert Crystal to your application via email.
Maillet Scholarship Fund
Established to provide support for undergraduate students underrepresented in the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences who aspire to a career in federal, state or city government agencies that serve the public. Eligible recipients must have a minimum of medium financial need as determined by the Financial Aid Office. Preference will be given to a UWiL student (past or present) and a major in Political Science, but all students majoring in the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences may apply. Recipients may have the scholarship renewed as long as they continue to meet the criteria. Apply through AcademicWorks.
